GSPR: General Product Safety Regulation

The GSPR, or General Product Safety Regulation, is a European legislation aimed at ensuring that all products placed on the market are safe for consumers. This regulation imposes obligations on manufacturers, distributors, and importers to ensure that products meet high safety standards.

Adopted to enhance consumer protection, the GSPR applies to a wide range of products, except those already covered by specific regulations (such as medicines or medical devices).

Key principles of the GSPR:

  • Safe products first: A product is considered safe if it poses no or only acceptable risks under normal conditions of use.
  • Traceability: Economic operators must be able to identify their suppliers and customers to ensure effective tracking.
  • Monitoring and control: National authorities may carry out inspections, order recalls, or remove dangerous products from the market.
  • Operator responsibility: Each actor in the supply chain (manufacturers, distributors, importers) plays an active role in preventing risks associated with product use.

To learn more about the applicable regulatory framework, you can consult Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety, also known as the GSPR. This regulation aims to ensure that all products placed on the European market are safe for consumers. It applies to many sectors, including B2B sales where products may be used by the general public.
